If you are researching the Colombia Digital Nomad Visa income requirements for 2026, you have probably found a maze of conflicting information online. Some blogs quote fixed USD amounts; others give you outdated 2024 or 2025 numbers.
As an immigration lawyer who processes these visas daily under Resolution 5477, I need to be completely transparent with you: the Colombian government does not care about your local currency. Here is the legal reality and exactly what you need to secure your visa and your new lifestyle in Colombia.
The Official 2026 Income Threshold (The 3x Rule)
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Cancillería) requires you to prove a minimum monthly income equivalent to 3 times the Colombian Legal Monthly Minimum Wage (SMMLV).
Since the official minimum wage for 2026 is set at $1,746,882 COP, the absolute minimum income requirement is $5,240,646 COP per month.
Stop guessing with static numbers. I had my team build this real-time calculator. Enter your exact income for the last 3 months, and our system will use live exchange rates to tell you if you legally meet the threshold today.
Note: The Cancillería will convert your USD/EUR/GBP income to Colombian Pesos on the exact day they open your file for study. This is why you must have a safety margin against exchange rate fluctuations.
The "No Averaging" Trap
Many applicants make a critical mistake: they calculate their average income over three months. The Cancillería does not average. Your income must stay above the $5,240,646 COP threshold for each of the last 3 months individually. If you earned $10,000 USD in month one, but only $1,000 USD in month two, your visa will be denied.
Bank Statements Are King
Do not submit invoices, tax returns, or letters from your accountant as your primary proof. The only valid documents to prove this monthly income are your official bank statements (extractos bancarios).
Government Fees & Processing
To properly budget for your Digital Nomad Visa (Type V), you must pay two separate government fees:
Study Fee (Estudio): $54 USD (Paid when submitting the application).
Issuance Fee (Expedición): $177 USD (Paid only after your visa is approved).
Foreigner ID (Cédula de Extranjería): $294.00 COP.
