Colombian Chancellery Launches Platform with Visa Costs, but Prices are Higher than in the Latest Resolution

The Colombian Chancellery has launched a new online platform (https://www.cancilleria.gov.co/tramites_servicios/visa/costos-medios-pago-oficinas-atencion) that makes it easier for foreigners to check visa costs. However, expert immigration lawyer Camila Ocampo warns that the prices published on the platform are higher than those established in the latest fee resolution, Resolution 10452 of 2023.
"It is an excellent initiative that the Chancellery provides tools like this platform so that foreigners can plan their trip to Colombia," says Camila Ocampo. "However, it is crucial that the information is accurate and updated to avoid confusion and possible problems for applicants."
Ocampo points out that while the platform is a positive step forward, the prices shown there are higher than the current ones according to Resolution 10452 of 2023. This discrepancy is causing frustration and uncertainty both for foreigners wishing to visit or live in Colombia and for immigration professionals seeking to provide clear and reliable information to their clients.
"It is disappointing to find this type of inconsistency," adds Ocampo with concern. "Foreigners could be negatively affected when carrying out their procedures, and this can generate distrust in the Colombian immigration system."
The lawyer points out that most visas have undergone an increase of more than 100% in their prices, which could discourage foreigners from coming to the country. This significant price hike has understandably caused concern and disappointment among those hoping to experience what Colombia has to offer.
"It is essential that the Chancellery take steps to correct this situation as soon as possible," concludes Ocampo. "A platform with misleading information can generate a negative image of Colombia and affect tourism and foreign investment."
