Is Your Colombia Visa at Risk? Post-Election Scams and Processing Safety

2026-03-12

Now that the elections are over, two things are happening: scammers are targeting confused expats with "fake appointment fees," and officials are returning to their desks with a high volume of backlogged applications.

Here are the 3 non-negotiable rules to stay safe this month:

  1. Appointments are FREE: Any agent asking for a fee just to "get you an appointment" for biometrics at Migración Colombia is likely a scammer.

  2. The SITAC System is Stable: Expect minor delays in email notifications this week due to post-election server updates, but do not re-submit your application as it might cause a "duplicate file" rejection.

  3. Discretionary Rules Still Apply: The law hasn't changed, but your documentation must be cleaner than ever to pass the post-election scrutiny.

Camila’s Strategic Advice: "In times of political transition, the best shield is a perfect application. Don't take shortcuts; the government is watching the details."
