Colombia Digital Nomad Visa: Understanding Your Visa Outcome & Next Steps! (2025 Guide)

2025-05-19

The journey to obtaining your Colombia Digital Nomad Visa is an exciting one, filled with meticulous preparation. Once you've submitted your application, the anticipation for the outcome begins. Understanding what each possible status means and what to do next, especially after approval, is key to a smooth transition.

This article is the latest in our comprehensive series guiding you through every facet of the Colombian Digital Nomad Visa. To get a complete picture, make sure you've reviewed our previous posts:

This post will focus on what to expect once your application has been reviewed by the Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Cancillería).

Understanding the Possible Visa Application Statuses

After the Ministry processes your Colombia Digital Nomad Visa application, it will be assigned one of three official statuses:

  1. Approved (Aprobada): This is the best-case scenario! It means your application was successful, and you're on your way to becoming a digital nomad in Colombia. We'll detail the next steps for an approved visa below.

  2. Not Admitted (Inadmitida): This status indicates that your visa has not been approved as submitted. Often, this is due to missing information, minor errors in documentation, or aspects that can be corrected. The good news is you can submit a new application. However, this means starting the entire process again and, unfortunately, paying the government application fees once more.

    1. Our Guarantee for "Not Admitted" Visas: At ColombianPassport.com, if your visa is "Not Admitted," we will resubmit your application up to three (3) additional times at no extra cost for our professional fees. If, after these attempts, we are still unable to secure your visa, we will refund 100% of our service fee.

  3. Rejected (Rechazada): This means your visa application has not been approved, and you cannot reapply for the same type of visa for a period of six (6) months from the date of rejection.

    1. Our Guarantee for "Rejected" Visas: Should your visa be "Rejected," we will represent you again and re-attempt the application after the mandatory 6-month waiting period, at no extra cost for our professional fees. If this subsequent application is also rejected, we will refund 100% of our service fee.

At ColombianPassport.com, our primary goal is to meticulously prepare your application to maximize the chances of an "Approved" status, helping you avoid the setbacks and additional costs associated with "Not Admitted" or "Rejected" outcomes.

Visa Approved! What Happens Next?

Receiving an "Approved" status for your Colombian Digital Nomad Visa is a moment to celebrate! Here’s a breakdown of the subsequent process:

  1. Email Notification & Payment Link:

    • You will receive an official email notification from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirming your visa approval.

    • This email will include a crucial payment link for the visa issuance fee.

    • Visa Issuance Fee: As of early 2025, this fee is approximately $177 USD (this amount can be subject to minor changes by the Ministry).

  2. Payment Methods for the Issuance Fee: The Ministry provides several options for paying the visa issuance fee:

    • Credit Card: Mastercard or Visa are generally accepted.

    • PSE (Pagos Seguros en Línea): This is a Colombian payment gateway primarily used by those with Colombian bank accounts.

    • In Colombia (Physical Payment): At Servibanca ATMs.

    • In Bogotá (Physical Payment): At the Banco Sudameris office located at Avenida 19 # 98-03.

    • The approval email will contain detailed payment instructions.

  3. Receiving Your Electronic Visa (E-Visa):

    • Once your payment for the issuance fee is successfully processed and confirmed by the Ministry, you will receive your electronic visa (e-visa). This is typically sent to your email within the following three (3) business days.

    • Your e-visa is a PDF document. It contains all your visa details, your photo, and a unique QR code for verification. (We can show you examples of what these e-visas look like as part of our service!)

  4. Entering Colombia with Your E-Visa:

    • The PDF document of your e-visa is your official Colombian visa.

    • You must present this e-visa (either printed or on a digital device) along with your valid passport to immigration officials (Migración Colombia) when you enter the country.

    • Important Note: Since 2020, the Colombian government no longer prints physical visa stickers in passports for most visa types, including the Digital Nomad Visa. The electronic PDF is your valid and official visa.

    • Upon arrival at the airport in Colombia, Migración Colombia officials will scan the QR code on your e-visa. They will then proceed to stamp your entry into the country in your passport and will typically write "VISA" or a similar annotation next to the entry stamp, indicating you've entered under your new visa status.

Navigating these post-approval steps, especially understanding the payment process and the new electronic visa format, is crucial for a seamless entry into Colombia and the official start of your digital nomad journey.
