3. "Hidden" Requirements and Safety Margins

The Invisible Criminal Record: The official resolution does not mention a criminal background check as a mandatory requirement for nomads. But, in practice, it is an unwritten rule. Officials almost always ask for it. Get ahead of them and upload it to avoid official requests (requerimientos). Keep in mind that if you are in Colombia, you will have to request it by sending your physical fingerprints. This whole process can take 3 weeks.
The Income Margin ($1,450 USD): The law requires 3 Colombian minimum wages (for 2026, the minimum is $1,746,882 COP). But the dollar is volatile, and the final value will be dictated by the exchange rate on the exact day the official reviews your application.
4. Passport and Health Insurance Strategy

The Passport Validity: The law asks for 6 months of validity. Don't do it! If your passport expires in 8 months, it is very possible that your visa will be issued tied to that exact expiration date.
